Process

How does live DTF printing work?

Merch Troop prints your artwork to a special film in full color with a white ink layer, coats it with adhesive powder, and cures it before the event. On site, the operator lines up the transfer on a garment and heat-presses it for about forty seconds, then peels. The graphic is now bonded into the fabric and the guest walks away wearing it.

Direct-to-film, or DTF, is a two-part process split across two moments: production before the event and pressing during it. That split is exactly why it works so well live. All the slow, technical work happens in advance, so the on-site step is fast and repeatable.

In production, we take your artwork and rip it for a DTF printer, which lays down full CMYK color plus a white underbase โ€” the white is what makes the design opaque and vivid on dark garments. That printed film then gets a fine adhesive powder and a cure that readies it to bond. We do this for every design on your menu, batching enough transfers to outlast your busiest hour.

On the floor, the live step is simple and quick: the operator positions the cured transfer on the garment, presses it under heat and pressure for roughly forty seconds, and peels the film away. What's left is a durable, full-color print fused into the fabric. Because switching designs just means grabbing a different pre-made transfer, a single station can offer many artworks and personalize on demand without any reset.

The result for your guest is immediate and memorable: they picked a design, watched it get made, and left wearing it. No shipping, no waiting, no compromise on color.
